Coronation Parade
Street guide, Hamble
Coronation Parade is a short terrace of shops on the eastern side of the High Street, providing the main retail provision in the village. Built in the mid-twentieth century, the parade houses a convenience store, pharmacy, hairdresser, and other small businesses. The shops serve the everyday needs of village residents and save them from having to drive to larger centres for basics. Above and behind the parade, there is some residential accommodation. The parade is named in the tradition common to many English villages and towns that built shopping terraces around the time of the 1953 coronation. Parking is limited to nearby on-street spaces. The parade is not architecturally distinguished, but it is functionally important to the village, and the loss of any of its units would be felt keenly by residents who depend on them.
