Hamble Lane
Street guide, Hamble
Hamble Lane is the only road connecting Hamble to the wider road network, running north from the village to the junction with the A27 and the M27 at junction 8. The lane carries all vehicular traffic in and out of the village, and congestion during peak hours is a long-standing issue that has been the subject of numerous planning debates and consultations. The southern section through the village has a residential character, while the northern section is more suburban with newer housing estates, The Harrier pub, and some commercial premises. The lane passes through a largely built-up corridor, though there are sections with trees and green boundaries. During the summer sailing season and on bank holiday weekends, queues can extend well back from the village. Despite the traffic problems, Hamble Lane provides quick access to the M27 motorway network, making Hamble viable as a commuter village for Southampton and the wider Solent area.
