Satchell Lane

Street guide, Hamble

Satchell Lane branches east from Hamble Lane and runs down to the River Hamble, providing access to Mercury Yacht Harbour and the riverside area. The lane is narrow and winding, with hedgerows and trees along sections giving it a semi-rural character despite its proximity to the village. Residential properties line parts of the lane, with some enjoying views towards the river and Warsash on the far bank. Satchell Marshes, a tidal wetland area, lies alongside the lower section of the lane and supports wading birds and other wildlife. The lane carries traffic to the marina and the sailing clubs, and it can be busy at peak times. There are no pavements along some sections, and pedestrians need to take care. The lane represents one of two main routes from Hamble Lane to the water, the other being through the village centre.
