Abbey Hill

Street guide, Hamble

Abbey Hill is a residential street that takes its name from the medieval priory of St Andrew, which stood in the vicinity. The priory, a cell of the Benedictine abbey of Tiron in France, was established in the twelfth century and its remains are incorporated into the fabric of St Andrew's Church. Abbey Hill rises gently from the village centre, and the houses along it enjoy an elevated position with some properties having views towards the river. The housing is a mix of periods, with some older village houses near the bottom and later development further up. The street has a pleasant character, benefiting from its proximity to the church and its slightly elevated position above the main village streets. It is a short walk from the High Street and the waterfront.
