The Royal Air Force Yacht Club is based on the River Hamble and provides sailing facilities for serving and former members of the Royal Air Force and their families. The club has a long association with the river and operates a programme of racing and cruising events. Its membership is drawn from across the country, but the Hamble base provides the club's primary sailing centre. The club maintains its own premises and pontoon facilities. The RAF Yacht Club adds to the concentration of sailing expertise on the Hamble and reflects the military connections that have been part of the village's character since the aviation industry established itself here in the twentieth century.
