Schools in Hamble

Primary, secondary, and further education options

Hamble has two schools within the village: Hamble Primary School and The Hamble School (secondary). This gives the village a self-contained education provision from age four through to sixteen, which is unusual for a settlement of its size and adds to its appeal for families.

Hamble Primary School on School Lane serves children aged four to eleven. It is a single-form-entry school, meaning it takes one class per year group. The school has a good reputation locally and benefits from its village setting, with easy access to the common, the foreshore, and the river for outdoor learning and school trips. The school is an important part of the village community, and its events and activities bring families together.

The Hamble School on Satchell Lane is a secondary school serving students aged eleven to sixteen. The school, formerly known as Hamble Community Sports College, has undergone changes in recent years. It provides a comprehensive curriculum and has sports and other facilities on its site.

For sixth-form education (ages sixteen to eighteen), students typically travel to colleges or school sixth forms in Eastleigh, Southampton, or Fareham. Barton Peveril Sixth Form College in Eastleigh is one of the main destinations for Hamble students at this stage.

School admissions in Hampshire are coordinated by Hampshire County Council. For primary school, living within the catchment area provides priority, and the small size of Hamble Primary means that most children living in the village will gain a place. Secondary school catchment areas are larger.

Independent (private) schools in the wider area include options in Southampton and Winchester, accessible by car or public transport. These serve families seeking alternatives to the state sector.
