Satchell Lane Area

Quiet residential lane connecting Hamble Lane to the River Hamble, with a mix of housing and access to Satchell Marshes and Mercury Marina.

Satchell Lane runs east from Hamble Lane towards the River Hamble, providing access to Mercury Marina and several residential streets. The area around Satchell Lane is a mix of older and newer housing, with some properties enjoying views across to Warsash and the river. The lane itself is narrow and winding in places, reflecting its origins as a country lane rather than a planned road. Along and off Satchell Lane, there are residential cul-de-sacs and small estates that have been built at various periods from the mid-twentieth century onwards. Some of the properties closer to the river command premium prices due to their waterfront or water-glimpse positions. The area has a quiet, residential character. It lacks the shops and facilities of the village centre but benefits from easy access to both the river and the village. Satchell Marshes, an area of tidal wetland along the river, provides a natural habitat that adds to the green character of the area. The marshes are visible from parts of Satchell Lane and from the footpaths that run alongside them. For residents, Satchell Lane provides the most direct route from Hamble Lane to the river without going through the village centre. It is also the access route for anyone heading to Mercury Marina by car. The lane carries less traffic than the village centre streets but can be busy during marina events or at the start and end of the sailing season.
