Hamble Point

Hamble Point is the southern tip of the Hamble peninsula, where the River Hamble meets Southampton Water. It is a low-lying area dominated by Hamble Point Marina, one of the largest marinas on the south coast with berths for several hundred boats. The marina complex includes chandleries, boat repair facilities, a fuel pontoon, and associated marine businesses. The character of Hamble Point is defined by sailing and boating. Masts line the skyline, halyards rattle in the wind, and the smell of antifoul and diesel is never far away. Beyond the marina, the Point itself is an exposed headland with views across Southampton Water to Fawley and the New Forest coastline. The Hamble Point car park at the end of the road is a popular spot for watching shipping movements in the Solent. Large container ships and cruise liners pass remarkably close to shore as they navigate the deep-water channel into Southampton. The area has limited residential development, with a few houses and the marina offices making up the built environment. The coastal path runs around the point, connecting the marina to Hamble Common and the foreshore. The lifeboat station, operated by the RNLI, is based nearby and provides inshore rescue cover for Southampton Water and the eastern Solent. Hamble Point is at its busiest during the summer sailing season, when the marina is full and the waterways are active with racing and cruising boats.
